Sexual Health

At AHP, we envision a world in which sexual expression is safe, consensual, and satisfying. Our Sexual Health Services program provides HIV, STI and HCV testing. We developed the first HIV counseling and testing program in the U.S. We work in partnership with the San Francisco Department of Public Health to deliver model integrated HIV, HCV, and STD testing services, including Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Navigation services, hepatitis C screening, syphilis testing, and hepatitis A vaccinations. We also offer on-site oral and rectal chlamydia and gonorrhea testing and treatment. This direct-service experience informs our trainings, as does our harm reduction approach to sexual health.

Introduction to Sexual Health (Live)

Maintaining Sexual Health (Live)

This course will offer participants information on a range of challenges to sexual health, including HIV, viral hepatitis, and other sexually transmitted infections. Discusses strategies to reduce harm related to these challenges, including behavioral and biomedical prevention methods and treatments; partner notification; and communication between health care providers and clients.

Harm Reduction Basics (Live)

This course Introduces participants to the key concepts and principles of harm reduction around substance use and sexual health. Initiates the exploration of the complexity of substance use, sexual behavior, and behavior change, as well as the need for practical strategies that address the negative consequences clients may experience.

Harm Reduction: Putting Principles Into Practice (Live)

This course will deepens participants’ understanding of harm reduction principles and connects these with the experience of what it means to work from a harm reduction perspective, so that they can incorporate this orientation into everyday work with clients. Introduces some basic tools and concepts of Motivational Interviewing and pairs these with harm reduction strategies to help participants practice guiding clients toward change targets, and away from harmful consequences. Explores a variety of potential change targets and strategies, with a focus on those related to substance use and sexual health.

How Do I Ask That? (Sexual Health Focus) (Live)

This course will teach service providers how to ask clients questions about sensitive subjects like substance use, overdose risk, HIV, PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), STIs, (sexually transmitted infections) and SOGI (sexual and gender identity), across cultural differences. Content is customizable to the providers addressed.
