Meet the 2026 Art Jury

Every work in the auction has already passed one test. Curation is the promise we make to every patron. For 30 years, Art for AIDS has presented exceptional, gallery-quality artwork. That standard begins with our jury. Every piece submitted is carefully reviewed by an independent panel of respected artists, gallerists, photographers, collectors, curators, educators, and design professionals. This thoughtful selection process ensures that the auction features work distinguished by artistic excellence, originality, craftsmanship, and impact — the same standard you'd expect in a serious gallery.

A juried exhibition benefits everyone. Artists receive the opportunity to have their work evaluated by accomplished professionals, while collectors and patrons can bid with confidence, knowing the collection has been carefully curated from hundreds of submissions. The result is an auction that celebrates outstanding contemporary art while supporting the Alliance Health Project's life-changing work.

2026 Jury

Gallerists, working artists, collectors, and lifelong patrons of the arts, each bringing a different eye to the same standard of quality.

Charles Anselmo — Fine art photographer, educator, and internationally exhibited artist.

James Bacchi — Owner and Director, James Bacchi Contemporary; formerly, an owner and director of ArtHaus, one of California's leading contemporary art gallerists.

Veteran gallerist James Bacchi has served as a juror for San Francisco’s renowned Art for AIDS auction, benefiting the UCSF Alliance Health Project, for 22 years. Alongside a panel of fellow jurors, Bacchi contributes to the selection of works by emerging and established artists while supporting one of the Bay Area’s most respected annual art events. That long-standing commitment to championing artists and fostering meaningful connections between art and philanthropy reflects a career spanning more than four decades. From founding ON THE WALL in New York City’s East Village in 1986 to establishing ArtHaus Gallery in San Francisco with Annette Schutz, and now JAMES BACCHI CONTEMPORARY in Palm Springs, Bacchi has built a reputation for discovering exceptional talent, curating memorable exhibitions, and cultivating lasting relationships with artists, collectors, museums, and design professionals. James undoubtedly has a particular passion for Art For AIDS. “My fondest memory of this special event was when fellow juror, The Honorable Judge Susan Breall, married Scott Balentine and I on the Skydeck of The Metreon at the opening of Art For AIDS in 2015.”

Susan M. Breall — Longtime collector and supporter of Bay Area artists.

By day Susan M. Breall presides over cases of abuse, abandonment, and neglect of children as a Superior Court Judge in the San Francisco. By night she sits as a juror evaluating art for the Alliance Health Project’s Art for Aids Auction. She has been an avid art collector for many years and chaired the advisory board of AHP for over 6 years. By night she also writes short stories. Her stories appear in numerous national and international anthologies including Impermanent Facts, Running Wild Press vol.3, vol.5, The Raw Art Review, Kairos Literary Magazine, The Write Launch, Two Sisters Writing 2020 short fiction prize, Paragon Press’ Martian Chronicles, Brain Mill Press AB Terra anthology, and Dreamers Writing.

Renée de Cossio — Artist, Curator & Creative Director of Renée de Cossio Art & Design, an innovative art advisory working across public art, residential and corporate collections, whose public and private art projects include collaborations with the Guggenheim Museum, SFMOMA, Kaiser Permanente, John Muir Health, and the Haight Street Art Center.

Maiysha Dickerson — Community leader and dedicated art collector.

Anne Glowinski, MD — Distinguished Professor and Division Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UCSF, collector, and advocate for the arts.

KC Ho — Contemporary painter and art collector

*Lisa Roth — Graphic designer, progressive activist, former AHP/Art for AIDS staff

Denise Tarantino — Internationally collected fine art photographer, 2024 recipient of the de Young SKD Fellowship and recognition as one of Photographer's Forum magazine's Top 100 Emerging Fine Art Photographers.

Nico van Dongen — Dutch-born photographer, artist, and professor whose internationally exhibited work explores perception through layered compositions—"photographic time sculptures."

Together, this diverse panel brings decades of professional experience and a shared commitment to artistic excellence, ensuring that every Art for AIDS auction offers an exceptional collection for collectors while showcasing remarkable artists from across the region and beyond.
