Txutxo Perez
Txutxo is a Mexican artist who uses icons and symbols from diverse cultures ,old and new to create surreal scenes. He uses gold leaf heavily on his art for its spiritual and sacred characteristics. His work overlaps or collages cultural concepts the popular culture of Asia, Latin America and the U.S. using printmaking techniques, mostly silkscreen and results in a rich and colorful mix of politics, eroticism, and gender. Txutxo has lived in the Mission District and made art in San Francisco for more than 25. He teaches silk-screening at the Hospitality House Community Arts Program and had was selected as an Artist-in Residence by the de Young Museum. COVID affected Txutxo’s income due to the cancellation of shows and art opportunities along with street fairs and other community events. Art was very important for him during the pandemic; to maintain his sanity and mental health.
