Andrew Jackson
To capture what a place feels like at night, this is how Andrew Jackson has been inspired to paint since the age of 19. For more than half his life he has applied my best efforts and attention to seeing and translating light on to canvas. At 20 he sought out mentors in Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA and was accepted and taken in by John Mason. He was given every opportunity to learn and show art in his gallery, as well as taken under wing by many gallery owners and artists alike. Willingness to learn and understanding of the value of these gifts was my education. From 1996 to 1998, he ran the Andrew T. Jackson Studio/Gallery in downtown Carmel. Then the day came when he realized it was time to learn how to paint, not a collection of techniques, but a style of his own. He closed the gallery and for the following five months, Andrew attended The Art Students League in New York. While he was at school, and for two years following, his work was featured in Phillips Gallery of Carmel. He now paints in his studio in Monterey and shows his Nightlife Paintings at the American Art Gallery in downtown Carmel.
