In Memory of Dave Perdue

The UCSF Alliance Health Project is relaunching the Dave Perdue Fundraiser to help secure critical funds for AHP’s food voucher program, which supports our most vulnerable clients who face food insecurity. Originally launched in 2024 by longtime AHP staffer and supporter Holly Wong in honor of her late brother Dave Perdue, AHP's food voucher program continues to receive strong support from our AHP community.

Food is health care,” expressed Braulio Garcia, LCSW, Deputy Director.

In these uncertain times, when Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits continue to be greatly impacted at the federal level, your support helps ensure that AHP can continue to provide much-needed food vouchers for AHP clients who need them on their mental health journey. Already, we have seen how this impacts our clients’ lives, helping them access a basic human need, such as food, and maintain their physical and mental health.

“Dave was a talented musician who many said sounded like Eddie Van Halen on guitar," said Holly Wong who initially helped launch the fundraiser in 2024 in lieu of gifts upon her retirement.

"Dave struggled with substance use disorders and ultimately died on the streets as a person experiencing homelessness in 2013, in Davie, Florida. Given Dave’s many years of suffering and living on the margins of life, he may have really benefited from programs like Getting to Zero Intensive Case Management (ICM) services.  This is an innovative program, funded through the San Francisco Department of Public Health, which helps clients stay in medical and mental health care, achieve, or maintain viral suppression, and effectively connects clients to the breadth of wraparound services necessary for stability and maximized quality of life, with the assistance of a dedicated Intensive Case Manager.”

Like many City programs, Getting to Zero, as well as AHP's other case management programs, have experienced some cost containment measures in the challenging budget environment and one thing that has paused is client vouchers. However, vouchers for clients are critical to engage people in care.

We really believe that you cannot support clients in facing their behavioral health issues if they are hungry, thirsty or feel unsafe. Please consider donating securely to the Dave Perdue Fundraiser by clicking one of the links below:
